Fuego en Castilla – José Val del Omar – 1960
Aesthetics, poetry and technics are the same thing in the works of Val del Omar.
Through the strength of his images and sounds modified with his own technical innovations, he is able to represent the undescriptible misticism of the saints.
In October 2011 there was an exposition about him in the Reina Sofia Museum (Madrid). I didn’t want to miss the opportunity of being in his laboratory. He was like a hermit. His fridge was filled with movies instead of food. Just a cross and the Imitation of Christ written by Saint John of the Cross in his bedside.
I think there will never be someone like him. Not in this Century. Not in Spain. I think he was like a prophet. Johannes in Ordet made flesh.
